Yemen - Anaerobic Natural
Tropical Fruits and bubblegum
50 Gram Gift Tins now available!
Amin Al-Marwani’s coffee is naturally shade-grown in the Bani-Matar region of Sana’a, Yemen. Amin grows Udaini, a coffee varietal native to Yemen which is perhaps one of the oldest heirloom coffees in the world, dating back hundreds of years. Grown at high altitude, 1800-2400 meters, this bean is known for its complexity and layered sweetness and unlike many coffee varietals, the Udaini thrives in low-rainfall, arid environments.
Most coffee farms in Yemen are extremely small and Amin’s farm is no exception; His yearly production is just over 100kg of green coffee per season, a tiny amount when compared to the average coffee farm in other parts of the world. Because of the small coffee volumes produced from the majority of farms in Yemen, most Yemen coffee offerings are blends of coffee from several farms, so this is a rare opportunity to taste exceptional coffee from a single farm in Yemen.
While most coffee in Yemen is traditionally dry-processed, this lot is an Anaerobic Natural, meaning that the freshly picked coffee cherries were allowed to ferment in an air tight environment. The technique adds a unique dimension to an already unique coffee.
Cleaner than most coffee from Yemen, here we have a cup that is filled with jammy fruit, cherries, strawberries and some papaya and preserved lemon with a dense body. Please note: this coffee requires at least of week of rest after roasting fo the optimal tasting experience.
Due to the limited quantity of this coffee, we have set roast dates. If you order other coffee with this one, your entire order will be roasted and shipped on the Yemen coffee roast date.
