Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha Cupping November 21st
On November 21st Chuck’s Roast / Patton Coffee Consulting is hosting a very special coffee tasting event that will take place at Coffee Cycle Roasting at 11:00am.
Participants will get to taste not one, but TWO Geisha lots side-by-side from one of the best coffee farms in the world. Chuck first established a relationship with the Peterson family in Boquette, Panama back in 2007 and this past April, he made yet another pilgrimage to their incredible farm where he chose two special lots to offer in 2026.
Both coffees will soon be available to purchase but you can reserve your space now at this exclusive cupping where Chuck will walk you through a professional coffee cupping as we explore each of these unique, magnificent coffees. While both of the offerings are dry-processed Geishas, each underwent different fermentation and drying protocols at origin so this cupping presents a rare opportunity to experience the impact different processing methodologies have on a coffee’s flavor and aroma from someone who has been at the forefront of specialty coffee since 2002. Chuck will also take you through the roast profile used for the coffees and explain how his unique approach to coffee roasting highlights the delicate, complex, elements of the Geisha varietal.
But wait! There’s more : each participant will take home a 20 gram roasted sample of each coffee! — Yep! 40 grams of Esmeralda Geisha total!
No cupping experience is necessary! Chuck has spent decades training coffee professionals and enthusiasts how to analyze roasted coffee. If you are new to tasting coffee, don’t worry; you will be in good hands and walk away from this event with a better understanding of how to evaluate coffee and with the confidence to cup coffee on your own as you continue your coffee journey.
The Peterson family purchased Hacienda La Esmeralda in 1967. While originally a dairy farm, the Peterson’s redeveloped much of the land converting it to coffee growing in the 1980s. They are often credited for re-introducing the specialty coffee world to the famed Geisha varietal. Years of dedication, experimentation, and hard work made Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Geisha one of the most sought after coffees in the world; in 2025, their top Geisha lot commanded a world-record $30,000 a kilo at the Best of Panama Auction after scoring a near-perfect 98 score at the Best of Panama Competition.
Join us for once-in-a-lifetime coffee event!
